EPISODE FIVE: Wherein we played with luck
We came to Bath, England via train to visit the Roman Bath and Pump Rooms, both of which didn't turn out to be the highlight of the trip. Hah! Upon our arrival, we headed to our hostel St Christopher's to unload our bags. We were told that our room reservation was for June instead of May!!! Opps...
We pleaded with the cute reception man to help us find a room, if not we will have to spend the night at the station shivering in the cold. He was kind enough to help ( which angmoh can resist two cute asian dolls right?) even though his rooms were all booked up. No promises but he will try his best to fit us in. We left our bags with them and enjoyed the rest of the day, trying not to think of what will happen tonight.

Bath is one of the world's great cities - its status as a World Heritage Site confirms that it's amongst the very best. In my opinion, it lives up to expectations and is a must see destination in England. Despite being touristy, Bath is exuding with charm and romance. This unique Georgian/Celtic city was once an ancient spa city called Aquae Sulis , where the Romans indulge in the natural thermal water beneath. Hence the name "Bath" for this city. This was also the residence of Jane Austen, who authored Pride and Prejudice. According to our guide, she didn't like this place. Hah.
This comfortably sized city is packed with grandeur. I felt like I was transported back in time to the Georgian days. We came to this fudge shop and drooled looking at the lumps of rich tasty fudge behind the glass window. Our instinct told us we had to try it. So we did and it brought us orgasmic pleasure just by letting the sugary fudge sink into our fangs and melting into a creamy bliss. Its just beside the tourist information near the Abbey, for those who are interested. Highly recommended, but beware the sugar rush. It may cause delightful shivers down the spine and uncontrollable laughter. Stay away if you wish to avoid public embarrassment.
Our lunch was at one of the alley pubs serving 2 for 7 pounds deals. I had my sausage and Bird has her favourite burger. We sat beside this old American couple and had fun gossiping (in Chinese) about the wife who was throwing tantrams at her husband for the wrong fish served. OK...I know...cheap thrills.
Stonehenge was next on our itinerary. We strolled back to the train station and found out that we were late for our scheduled train!!! We were suppose to leave an hour ago. Fortunately for us, we were able to catch the next train in a few minutes time. But our reservation was for the previous train, by right we were not suppose to board this coming train. Heck la, we decided to just play with our luck and see what happens.
We approached the conductor with our tickets to make sure it was the right train. He kindly ushered us in and we quickly became acquainted. When he did his rounds punching cards, he was more happy to see us comfortably in our seats then to check if we had our seat reservations. And so, we made our way happily to Salisbury to see Stonehenge!
Took a bus from Salisbury station to Stonehenge. Boy, the bus ticket is expensive!!! 7.50 pounds each!!! Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located north of Salisbury. It is one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world and is one of UNESCO's World Heritage Site.

Stonehenge is composed of circular setting of large standing stones, believed to be erected around 3200 BC. Lots of myth and speculations surround these stones. Most believed that it was an ancient religious site used for ceremonies and astronomy studies. I think aliens came and left their mark here. Miss Birdie tried to contact the celestial being by making a long distant call on her audio guide. She can't seem to get thru.
We were back at Salisbury in the evening to visit this little town. This place has its clear river and plenty of swans. Church in the third row of photos below is the Salisbury Church. Dinner was at King's Head Inn. I had pasta and bird had some fishcake. Returned to Bath and thank goodness! Cute guy managed to find us a bed!!! We had to share our room with a bunch of ten hen party girls. Anything was better than the cold station. Celebrated our stroke of luck at the hostel bar with Smirnoff Ice and cocktail Archers ( something like vodka lime).
