Europe Summer Episode TwentyFive

EPISODE TWENTYFIVE: Wherein I mistook a dying lion for a sleeping lion.

Lucerne, Switzerland. Took a bus from Krienz and arrived at Lucerne city centre. We were immediately welcomed by Lake Lucerne. Seems like everywhere we go in Switzerland we will see their glorious blue water. And like Bern, Lucerne has it old and new city district.

The city straddles the Reuss River where it drains the lake and thus has a number of bridges. Bottom right photo shows their famous Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke), a long wooden bridge originally built in 1333, although much of it had to be replaced after a fire ( like London, almost everywhere was once burnt down and restored). Partway across, the bridge runs by the octagonal Water Tower (Wasserturm). Inside the bridge are a series of paintings from the 17th century depicting events from Luzern's history.

The bottom left picture shows the paintings inside the Spreuer Bridge, another bridge completed as a part of the city fortification in 1408.

The centre picture shows the clear Reuss River. In the background ( very small) is the Jesuit Church. It looks like a mosque but its actually the first large sacral Baroque church in Switzerland constructed for the Jesuits.

Now more pictures of me having fun in Lucerne.

See the second picture on the top row? That's the dying Lion of Lucerne, one of the world's most famous monuments. It was carved out of natural rock in memory of the heroic deaths of the Swiss mercenaries at the Tuileries. And Mark Twain described the Lion as the saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world. Hur. And I still thought the lion was sleeping. Bird corrected me when I joke that she should learn to sleep as soundly as the lion. *Shy*
Anyway, I took a million dollar photo with sleeping/dying lion. I did a terrifying pose of a lion while Bird snapped it with my camera. Suddenly everyone clapped. They were clapping for my courage to 不忌形象落力表演。我卖力的演出博得了满堂喝彩! *Proud*
Dinner was at a riverside pub/restaurant serving pasta. We had tomato base pasta with a strand of grass. After the gratifying dinner, we hurried back to the station to catch our train to Basel then to Manneheim then finally Munich. We knew it was going to be a long rough night but we didn't expect it to be that LONG and tiring. Especially the last leg....
