Munich, Germany. Munich city centre was bustling with life when we arrived. Hungry from not having breakfast, we hopped to Viktualien food market where pork knuckles await us!!! We bought one knuckle and sat at the biergarten gobbling down all that fat. The mashed potato that came with it was COLD and a little SOUR, but it went quite well with the greasy pork. YUMMY!!!
After fatty lunch, we made our way to the Englischer Garten on the U-bahn. The Englischer Garten (English Garden) is one of the world's largest urban public parks, and contains a nudist area (Hee), jogging tracks and bridle-paths. Just so that you know, the term English garden refers to the style of informal landscape gardening which was popular in the UK from the mid 18th century to the early 19th century. The name of this park hence refers to its style of gardening.
With 7,000 seats, the Chinesischer Turm's beer garden at the Englischer Garten is the second largest beer garden in Munich. The 25-meter-high wooden structure that looks like a Pagoda was modelled to resemble a porcelain pagoda in the gardens of a Chinese emperor. We had a huge mug of Munich beer and guzzled it down under the hot hot sun. BURP!
After beer, we came back to Odeonplatz and strolled along the street, where lots of activities were going on. There was a carnival ( again! Germans love carnivals and fun-filled weekends!!)going on and people were everywhere.Dinner was at the famous Hofbrauhaus, one of Munich's oldest brewery restaurants! If you do visit Munich, don't miss this place!!!
We had more beer which is fantastic. Very smooth and no bitter aftertaste. The decor of teh restaurant is very authentic and cosy. Our main course was SAUSAGES!!! This was the last time we could enjoy German wursts and there was nothing that could stop us from having more sausages!!!!
It was a very enjoyable meal. We were back at the station at 9pm and stayed in the waiting lounge till 3am for our next train to A M S T E R D A M!!!!!!
