It was drizzling endlessly in the morning. After breakfast we looked through the brochures to find out what we could do. Trudging in the rain early in the morning for a walking tour was definitely a nono. Why not bathe in the rain? That sounds damn cool.
For 20 Pounds, we pampered ourselves in the natural thermae water of Bath at the Thermae Bath Spa. We were entitled to four different thermal bath experience at the New Royal Bath. Our first stop, we braved the cold to dip in the open air rooftop pool. That is where we saw Borat. Poor fella, his bunch of buddies sabo-ed him to wear the lime green Borat swimsuit!!! It brought him so much attention. We can't help it but to take a photo with him. He is so shy he refused our request but his buddies just had to embarrass him. They pushed him out off the pool and we managed to snap a shot with Mr Shy Brit in his sexy translucent gear. OOooo...
Next we went to the Minerva Bath, an indoor pool also fed with natural thermae water. We spent some time later at the aroma steam room and waterfall shower. After 2 hours of indulgence, we left the spa feeling fresh and invigorated. It was time to do some walking!
Joined the free walking tour and followed the guide around some of the more famous attractions. Bath's golden-stoned architecture looked seductive in the rain. We walked in the rain through the alleys to the Crescent and the Circus. I did not enjoy much because of the rain and the cold. My fingers swell and froze in numbness and I couldn't take pictures. Our maps were totally destroyed, my socks were wet and we were grumpy because we didn't have lunch.
Would have been better if we brought our umbrellas along. Everyone on the tour has umbrellas and the guide happily stood in the middle of nowhere, without any shelter for us, his enthusiastically explaining the history to us. No one shared their umbrellas with us until towards the end the tour, this couple from London offered to give us shelter. So touched by their kindness. Better late than never.
It was time to leave. Bird took a train back to Leeds for her astrophysics paper. Hah! I returned to London to meet ChinYaw to start my London trip! Stay tuned for London and more rain to come!!!
